Who am I? Good question... tell me when you know.
Ok, I will tell you what I know. You are free to guess the rest, although I may not like your guesses.
I was born in Port Townsend, a town in the Pacific Northwest that likes to think of itself as quaint. I grew up in Port Angeles, a town that would like to think of itself somewhere between log mill and tourist trap. I think it is in the process of realizing no longer is either, not to say there aren't redeeming characteristics. Both are on the absolutly gorgeous Olympic Peninsula of Washington State in the US.
I've worked a bit, studied a bit, been broke a few times and felt rich enough to be happy. I live in a concrete box roughly the size of a small-town morgue, the place has about as much charm as well. As I write this I am letting a curriculum I just wrote/edited sit and ferment for later editing while listening to songs in Thai.
Ahh, yes; my concrete box, the songs and about everything else I own in the world right now is sitting in Thailand because it sounded like a funny idea about four years ago to come here. So, here I am.
I just graduated from a school that I wasn't impressed by. I was instructed by proffesors that were phenominal (both sides of the spectrum depending on the professor). I am now teaching Social Studies, focusing on Thai history, in a Thai government school to kids who will grow up to a country devestated by abuse of resources in the hopes of fighting its way up in the global rat race.
My own grandmother has called me a cynic, grandmothers never lie so it is probably true. I won't try to deny it, but I will sae the majority of my cynicism for those close enough that they won't stop listening.
Well, if you feel like you know me any better than you did 4 minutes ago when you started reading this (that is time to go back and try and figure out why you wasted your time reading this far) then I guess you and I have both achieved something. If not, you are probably a cynic too; and the optomists hate to admit that the cynics are normally right.
